Adoption Instead of Purchasing (AIP)
Animal adoption
is the process of taking in a pet or an animal from a shelter, rescue group, or individual owner who can no longer take care of them, and providing them with a permanent home and loving care. Adoption typically involves completing an application, undergoing a screening process, and paying an adoption fee, which may vary depending on the organization and the type of animal. Adopting an animal is a compassionate and responsible choice that not only helps provide a better life for the animal but also promotes the welfare of animals in general.
While estimates vary, approximately three to four million dogs and cats are euthanized (“put to sleep”) each year in Canada because too few people spay or neuter the pets they have, too few adopt their new pets, and too many give up their pets.
By adopting a pet from an animal shelter or rescue group, you'll help save the lives of two animals—the pet you adopt and a homeless animal that can be rescued because of space you make available!

MY THINKING
Why we adopt animals?
You will save lives!
-
An estimated 3 million to 4 million dogs and cats are euthanized in Canada each year because too few people neuter their pets, too few adopt new ones, and too many people give up their pets.
-
Because the shelter has limited space, staff must make the difficult decision to euthanize a healthy animal that has not been adopted within a certain period of time.
-
-
If more people adopted pets instead of buying them, the number of animals being euthanized could be greatly reduced.
-
By adopting from an animal shelter or rescue organization, you will be helping to save the lives of two animals - your adopted pet and a homeless animal that can be saved because of the space you provide.
-
You will save money!
-
Adopting a pet from an animal shelter is much cheaper than buying a pet from a pet store or other source. Buying a pet can easily cost $500 to $1,000 or more; Adoption fees range from $50 to $200.
-
In addition, animals from many shelters have been neutered or neutered and vaccinated, which makes shelters cheap.
-
-
Although many shelters and rescue organizations have purebred animals, adopted mixed-breed pets can be healthier than purebred pets (purebred pets are more likely to have genetic problems) and, as a result, cost less overall.

You'll get a great animal
Animal shelters and rescue groups are brimming with happy, healthy pets just waiting for someone to take them home. Most shelter pets wound up there because of a human problem like a move or a divorce, not because the animals did anything wrong. Many are already house-trained and used to living with families.
All pets are good for your health, but adoptees offer an extra boost!
Caring for a pet can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment and lessen feelings of loneliness. And when you adopt, you can also feel proud about helping an animal in need!
Not only do animals give you unconditional love, but they have been shown to be psychologically, emotionally and physically beneficial to their companions.
